Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a major mining operation near Polokwane. The role combines on-site mining site work with remote oversight of complex electrical systems, driving safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead design, installation, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines to optimize performance. A PE with heavy industry experience is preferred.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years in electrical engineering with mining/heavy industry focus.
• Experience with HV/MV distribution, substations, and power generation.
• Knowledge of industrial automation: PLC, SCADA, VSD in mining machinery.
• Understanding of mining electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Proficiency with electrical design software and PM tools.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain electrical systems and equipment for mining operations, including power distribution networks, motor control centres, and process control systems.
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs for electrical assets to minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations specific to the mining industry.
• Conduct electrical hazard identification and risk assessments for all mining activities.
• Oversee electrical projects, from scope definition and budgeting to execution and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical faults and system failures in demanding environments.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electrical staff and technicians.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, operations teams, and external contractors to optimize electrical system performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience with high-voltage and medium-voltage distribution systems, substations, and power generation.
• In-depth knowledge of industrial automation, PLC systems, SCADA, and VSD applications in mining machinery.
• Strong understanding of mining-specific electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Proficiency in electrical design software and project management tools.
• Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both office and demanding on-site mining environments.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
