Placements24 is assisting a leading innovator in smart grid technologies in Soweto in recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing advanced electrical systems for modern power grids and renewable energy integration.

You will work cross-functionally to develop grid modernization solutions, stay current with industry standards, and contribute to grid reliability and energy efficiency initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's in Power Systems preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with power systems or smart grid focus.
• Strong understanding of power distribution, grid operations, and renewable integration.
• Familiarity with SCADA, DNP3, Modbus, and data analytics for grid management.
• Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical systems for smart grid applications including microgrids and energy storage.
• Perform power system analysis, load forecasting, and grid stability studies.
• Develop control strategies and protection schemes for grid-connected systems.
• Specify electrical equipment including transformers and protection relays.
• Collaborate with software engineers and project managers to integrate smart grid solutions.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
• Prepare design specifications, reports, and operational manuals.
• Keep up-to-date with emerging smart grid trends and standards.
