Job summary

The role requires ownership of HV engineering design for substations, transmission and distribution, with a focus on safety, quality, and timely delivery. Strong leadership and stakeholder management are essential for success.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Electrical Engineering required
• 7–10+ years’ electrical engineering experience
• Site-based construction experience essential
• Experience in mining, energy, infrastructure, or industrial sectors advantageous
• Proven exposure to full project lifecycle (design to commissioning) and strong technical, analytical skills

Responsibilities

• Lead HV engineering design for substations, transmission, distribution, and reticulation systems
• Prepare, review, and approve technical designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians
• Ensure compliance with Eskom standards, SANS, IEC, NRS, Grid Code, and OHSA regulations
• Support projects through feasibility studies, tender evaluations, and cost estimates
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams
• Provide site-based support including inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover
• Identify and manage technical risks while ensuring safe, cost-effective solutions
• Ensure delivery within quality, safety, budget, and programme requirements

• Site-based construction experience essential
• Experience in mining, energy, infrastructure, or industrial sectors advantageous
• Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
