About the Role

Our client, a leading utility infrastructure company operating in Benoni, Gauteng , is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to spearhead critical power distribution projects. This role is essential for ensuring the reliable and efficient delivery of electricity to our growing customer base. You will be responsible for the design, planning, and execution of projects related to overhead lines, underground cables, substations, and protection systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in power systems engineering, strong project management capabilities, and a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering for power distribution projects, including network upgrades, extensions, and new developments.
• Develop detailed electrical designs, schematics, and specifications for distribution networks (MV/LV).
• Conduct load analysis, fault studies, and protection coordination studies using appropriate software.
• Specify and procure electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, cables, and protection relays.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring successful project delivery from inception to completion.
• Oversee the construction and commissioning phases, providing technical guidance and ensuring quality standards are met.
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project compliance.
• Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Prepare project reports, progress updates, and technical documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering their professional development.

Requirements

• B.Eng or B.Sc in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical power distribution engineering.
• Proven experience in designing and managing distribution network projects.
• Strong knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/ADEPT, PowerFactory, ETAP).
• Familiarity with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and utility practices.
• Experience with MV and LV equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet project deadlines.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience within the Benoni or broader Gauteng region is advantageous.
