Qualifications

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in design and management of electrical power distribution systems.
• Strong knowledge of MV/HV distribution technologies and equipment.
• Experience with protection coordination and relay settings.
• Familiarity with South African distribution network standards (NRS).

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of power distribution networks, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cables.
• Develop and review technical specifications and project documentation for distribution projects.
• Conduct load flow, fault level, and stability studies for distribution systems.
• Specify and select electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, relays, and conductors.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and testing of new distribution assets.
• Ensure designs comply with national electrical codes, safety standards, and policies.
• Provide technical support to project teams, contractors, and maintenance personnel.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues within the distribution network.
• Collaborate with regulators and stakeholders to obtain approvals and integration.
• Contribute to long-term capital plans for the distribution network.

About the Role

Our client, a significant contributor to the national energy infrastructure, is looking for a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Distribution to join their team in Pretoria, Gauteng . This role is critical for ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the electricity distribution network. You will be involved in the planning, design, and implementation of projects aimed at upgrading and expanding the distribution infrastructure to meet growing demands and integrate new energy sources. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with medium and high-voltage distribution systems, substation design, and protection schemes. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of power distribution networks, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cables.

Requirements

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in the design and management of electrical power distribution systems.
• Strong knowledge of medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) distribution technologies and equipment.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, DigSILENT PowerFactory).
• Experience with protection coordination and relay settings.
• Familiarity with South African distribution network standards and regulations (e.g., NRS specifications).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a hybrid work model.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) is highly desirable.
