Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Engineer with mining sector experience to join our operations team in a hybrid role based in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will support electrical infrastructure, systems, and safety in a demanding mining environment.

The role involves maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrading electrical equipment, with emphasis on reliability and efficiency in mine operations. Collaboration with maintenance teams and contractors is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Minimum 5 years in electrical engineering; at least 3 years in mining/heavy industry.
• Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech.Eng registration desirable.
• Knowledge of HV distribution, motors, VSDs, and mine electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical equipment in mining context.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis to minimize downtime.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations, mining codes and environmental standards.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for electrical infrastructure.
• Manage electrical project execution, including scope, budgeting, and contractor coordination.
• Provide technical support and training to maintenance teams and operators.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical system troubleshooting and root cause analysis to minimize downtime.
• Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, mining codes, and environmental standards.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for electrical infrastructure.
• Manage electrical project execution, including scope definition, budgeting, and contractor coordination.
• Provide technical support and training to maintenance teams and operational personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 3 years specifically within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Knowledge of high-voltage distribution, heavy-duty motors, variable speed drives, and mine-specific electrical systems.
• Familiarity with safety protocols for hazardous environments and confined spaces.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Technologist (Pr.Tech.Eng) registration is highly desirable.
