About the Role

Our client, a renowned engineering consultancy firm specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Tembisa, Gauteng. This role is critical for leading the design and development of complex electrical systems for major infrastructure projects, including transportation, utilities, and public facilities. You will be responsible for conceptualizing designs, overseeing drafting, performing detailed calculations, and ensuring compliance with stringent industry standards and client requirements. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in electrical infrastructure design, a strong understanding of power distribution, lighting, and earthing systems, and excellent leadership qualities. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of major infrastructure projects, from conceptualization to detailed design.
• Develop electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, power distribution layouts, and lighting designs.
• Perform complex electrical calculations, including load flow, short-circuit, and earthing studies.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international electrical codes, standards (e.g., SANS, IEC), and project specifications.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, structural) to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Manage and mentor junior electrical engineers and design draughtspersons.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to technical queries during construction.
• Conduct site visits for design verification and during construction phases in Tembisa, Gauteng.
• Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documentation.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in electrical infrastructure design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in electrical design engineering, with a strong focus on infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in designing power distribution systems, substations, motor control centers, and lighting systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience managing project deliverables and client relationships.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet project deadlines.
