Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to join a fully remote team based in Pretoria. You will design, implement, and maintain advanced security solutions to protect digital assets and ensure resilience against evolving threats.

Responsibilities include threat hunting, security automation, and guiding development and operations teams on best practices. The role requires extensive hands-on experience and the ability to work autonomously in a distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years hands-on cybersecurity engineering and operations.
• Proficient in Python or Bash scripting and automation tools.
• Strong knowledge of networks, operating systems, and cloud security principles.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, and vulnerability management.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy robust security solutions and infrastructure.
• Develop security automation scripts and tools to improve efficiency.
• Perform advanced threat analysis and proactive threat hunting operations.
• Provide technical guidance on security best practices for development and operations teams.
• Manage firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and VPNs.
