Placements24 is seeking a Senior Chemical Process Engineer for a remote-first role based from Upington, Northern Cape. You will lead design and optimization of chemical processes, collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and project teams, and mentor junior engineers while leveraging advanced process simulation tools.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in process design, scale-up, and safety, with excellent communication skills to work across global teams in a flexible remote setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; Master's preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in chemical process engineering.
• Experience in process design, scale-up, and optimization.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience collaborating remotely with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of new chemical processes and optimize existing ones.
• Create and review PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
• Run process simulations, mass and energy balances, and equipment sizing calculations.
• Conduct PHAs and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
• Collaborate virtually with project teams, vendors, and clients to ensure project success.
• Provide technical expertise during commissioning and start-up phases.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and develop solutions for complex process challenges.
• Develop and implement strategies for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency gains.
• Prepare technical reports and project documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the organization.
