Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer to join our client’s team. The role is remote with occasional site visits to the Pretoria, Gauteng facility, focusing on development, scale-up, and optimization of high-value chemical products.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry, reaction engineering, and separation technologies, and will contribute to efficient, cost-effective product development while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in chemical process development, preferably in specialty chemicals.
• Strong background in reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer.
• Proficiency with process simulation software such as ChemCad and Aspen Plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop chemical processes for synthesis and purification of specialty chemicals.
• Model and simulate processes to optimize reaction conditions and unit operations.
• Plan and execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to validate designs.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement process improvements for yield and quality.
• Develop PFDs and P&IDs for new and modified processes.
• Ensure compliance with SHE regulations in all activities.
• Collaborate with R&D chemists, production teams, and quality control.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for development and technology transfer.
• Manage multiple projects and timelines.
