Job summary

A major chemical manufacturing plant in Benoni, Gauteng, is seeking an experienced Senior Chemical Engineer specializing in Safety and Compliance to join our team. You will develop and oversee safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and ensure operations meet stringent local and international standards.

The ideal candidate has a chemical engineering degree, at least six years’ SHE-focused experience, expertise in PSM and HAZOP, and relevant safety certifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years' experience in chemical engineering with a focus on SHE compliance.
• Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM).
• Experience with risk assessments and HAZOP studies.
• NEBOSH or IOSH safety certification desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to lead change.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement safety management systems and procedures.
• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP studies.
• Ensure compliance with SA and international safety regulations.
• Investigate incidents and determine root causes.
• Deliver safety training for plant personnel.
• Manage hazardous materials and waste disposal.
• Perform safety audits and inspections.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and safety consultants.
• Promote a strong safety culture company-wide.
