Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Safety Engineer for our Port Elizabeth-area client, a leading chemical processing manufacturer. You will develop, implement, and monitor HSE programs, oversee risk assessments, and lead incident investigations to prevent repeats.

The role requires a degree in Engineering or Safety Management, 6+ years in safety engineering, PSM knowledge, NOSA certification preferred, and strong communication and auditing skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety Management, or related technical field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in a safety engineering role, preferably in chemical/manufacturing.
• NOSA certification or equivalent desirable.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles and relevant safety legislation.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs to prevent incidents and promote a robust safety culture. This position requires a proactive approach to risk management and a commitment to safeguarding employees and the environment within a demanding industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs and policies.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and hazard identification studies.
• Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant South African OHS Act regulations and industry standards.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels of the organization.
• Monitor safety performance, compile reports, and recommend improvements to safety procedures and systems.

Requirements
