Placements24 is seeking a Senior Character Artist for a studio in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will sculpt, model, texture, rig, and optimize characters from concept to implementation in real-time engines.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of character art experience, a solid portfolio, and deep knowledge of anatomy, silhouette, and fashion. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior artists are key aspects of the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level art degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating diverse character styles.
• Expertise in anatomy, form, silhouette, and fashion across genres.

Responsibilities

• Sculpt high-poly characters using ZBrush and related tools.
• Create clean, efficient low-poly models for real-time rendering.
• Develop high-quality textures and materials with PBR workflows (Substance Painter).
• Rig and skin characters for animation with proper deformation.
• Optimize character assets for performance across platforms.
• Collaborate with concept artists, animators, and technical artists to ensure quality.
• Implement characters into game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Mentor junior character artists with guidance and feedback.
• Keep up-to-date with industry techniques and trends.
• Help define visual style and quality standards for characters.
