Job summary

The Working Earth in Gauteng, South Africa, seeks a Senior Bookkeeper to manage the full bookkeeping function across multiple entities. You will oversee cashbooks, process journals through to trial balance, and drive month-end closes with accuracy.

Proficiency in SYSPRO, VAT returns, year-end audit prep, and strong internal controls are required. You will handle intercompany reconciliations and oversee costing for project components across 2–3 entities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience as Senior Bookkeeper (ideally in a medium-sized business).
• Strong SYSPRO experience – NON-NEGOTIABLE.
• Costing experience essential.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Cashbook management and journal entries through to trial balance.
• Month-end processing and reporting.
• VAT preparation and returns.
• Year-end audit preparation and involvement.
• Intercompany confirmations and reconciliations.
• Experience overseeing bookkeeping for 2–3 entities.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full bookkeeping function across multiple entities
• Manage cashbooks and ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions
• Prepare and process journal entries through to trial balance
• Take ownership of the month-end process and ensure all deadlines are met
• Oversee bookkeeping activities across 2–3 entities
• Prepare VAT calculations and returns
• Assist with year-end audit preparation and requirements
• Manage intercompany confirmations and reconciliations
• Maintain accurate income statement and balance sheet accounts
• Ensure strong financial controls are maintained and implemented
• Assist with product costing for products being resold as part of projects
• Oversee and support finance staff where required
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles and internal processes
• Provide accurate and timely financial information to management
