Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Process Development Scientist for our client in Rustenburg, North West, South Africa. You will design, optimize, and scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, turning lab discoveries into robust production methods with GMP-compliant workflows.

The role requires a PhD/MSc in Biochemical Engineering or related field, 5+ years in biopharma development, and hands-on experience in upstream or downstream processing, DoE, and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related life science field.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in biopharmaceutical process development and scale-up.
• Demonstrated expertise in upstream or downstream processing.
• Proven experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical analysis tools.
• Familiarity with GMP regulations and guidelines relevant to biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation abilities.
• Experience working in a Rustenburg, North West-based research or manufacturing environment is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments to optimize biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including cell culture, fermentation, purification, and formulation.
• Develop and validate scalable processes that meet regulatory requirements (e.g., GMP) and product specifications.
• Perform risk assessments and implement control strategies to ensure process robustness and product consistency.
• Utilize Design of Experiments (DoE) principles to efficiently optimize process parameters.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex process-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to production timelines.
• Analyze process data, interpret results, and generate detailed technical reports and development protocols.
• Lead technology transfer activities for new processes from development to manufacturing scale.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior scientists and engineers within the process development group.
• Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory guidelines relevant to biopharmaceutical process development.
