Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Bioinformatician to join its remote R&D team based anywhere in South Africa. You will design and implement robust pipelines for WGS, WES and RNA-Seq, apply ML to complex biological data, and collaborate with a distributed team to interpret results and develop new tools.

You will have a strong background in statistics and be comfortable working in a remote setting, with excellent communication to teammates and stakeholders across multiple time zones.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Bioinformatics or related field required.
• Minimum 5 years of professional bioinformatics experience with large datasets.
• Proficiency in Python, R, Perl and libraries Biopython/SciPy/NumPy.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containers (Docker/Singularity).
• Strong statistics background and machine learning application in biology.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain pipelines for NGS data (WGS, WES, RNA-Seq).
• Apply statistics and ML to extract biological insights from datasets.
• Collaborate remotely with scientists to design experiments and interpret results.
• Contribute to novel computational tools and document methods clearly.
• Participate in code reviews and promote data management best practices.
