Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering cutting-edge financial platforms, collaborating with a cross-functional team to shape technical direction.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience with Python/Java/Go/Node.js, API design (REST/GraphQL), and cloud-native tech (Docker/Kubernetes, AWS/Azure/GCP).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years backend development experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or Cassandra.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and GraphQL.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve backend software and systems.
• Manage and optimize database performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality features.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions for new features and systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence.
• Stay updated with emerging backend technologies and industry trends.
