Placements24 is seeking an accomplished Senior Backend Software Engineer (Java) to join its core banking systems team in Bloemfontein. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that power critical financial operations, collaborating in an agile environment to ensure secure handling of data.

The ideal candidate brings deep enterprise Java experience, strong Spring Boot knowledge, and a track record with microservices and relational databases.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development with Java.
• Strong Spring/Spring Boot experience.
• Relational databases experience (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Familiar with microservices architecture and Git version control.
• Excellent communication and teamwork; full-time onsite in Bloemfontein.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain microservices architectures for new and existing apps.
• Optimize database schemas and queries for relational DBs (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Integrate backend services with third-party APIs and systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and QA teams to deliver quality software.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technology choices.
• Ensure performance, security, and reliability of backend systems.
