Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer in Bloemfontein to design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend systems powering fintech-grade applications. You will work across the full SDLC, emphasizing Java, Spring Boot, and microservices.

The role demands 5+ years of backend experience, strong Java expertise, and solid knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases, REST APIs, and modern cloud/container platforms. A growth-oriented team and robust tech stack await.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development using Java.
• Strong proficiency with the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security).
• Experience designing and building microservices architectures.
• Proficiency in relational database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate/JPA).
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
• Experience with message queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous.
• Proficient in using Git and understanding CI/CD principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-quality, scalable backend services using Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs for frontend and other services.
• Work with databases (SQL and NoSQL) to design efficient data models and queries.
• Implement robust security measures and ensure data integrity.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to coding standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product owners, frontend developers, and QA engineers.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technology decisions.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices within the team.
