Job summary

Camunda is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for our Core / API & Process Automation team, working on Camunda 8. You will optimize the event-sourced engine, ensure data integrity, and enable AI agents to integrate with the engine.

You’ll work with a global team to push the boundaries of workflow orchestration and reliability. You’ll lead design choices, own critical paths, and mentor others while shipping high-quality features with strong observability and upgrade safety.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience in distributed and event-driven systems.
• Strong API design and evolution skills with contract-first mindset.
• Proven ability to diagnose and improve performance under production load.
• Technical leadership experience from ambiguity and mentoring others.
• Excellent written communication, especially ADRs and async decision making.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the event-sourced engine and its REST/gRPC/MCP API.
• Lead end-to-end hard problems, define solutions, and drive pragmatic decisions.
• Ship high-impact engine features with a focus on reliability and quality.
• Ensure resiliency, schema evolution, and observability across upgrades.
• Identify and fix inefficient data access patterns across data stores.
• Mentor the team, perform top-quality reviews, and drive incident resolution.
