Job summary

You will translate customer needs into clear quotes, coordinate with estimating and engineering teams, and follow through to close deals, with attention to detail and high communication standards. This role is on-site.

Qualifications

The Sales Representative focuses on managing incoming inquiries, converting warm leads, and securing production contracts within the sheet metal fabrication sector. This is a non-hunting role that does not require cold calling or outside prospecting. The position demands a high level of technical mastery; the representative must possess an absolute understanding of client requirements and have the technical expertise to flawlessly interpret and understand engineering drawings to ensure total production accuracy.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Sales & Request Intake

• Requirement Alignment: Develop an absolute understanding of client expectations, application intents, and precise project needs during initial consultations.
• Inbound Conversion: Respond to and qualify incoming product inquiries, warm leads, and active manufacturing requests.
• Drawing Interpretation: Review and thoroughly interpret incoming engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical 3D models to evaluate fabrication feasibility.
• RFQ Processing: Evaluate detailed Requests for Quotes (RFQs) by verifying tolerances, dimensions, material types, and finishing specifications.

Estimation & Project Closing

• Internal Liaison: Translate client technical needs into clear documentation for internal estimating, engineering, and production teams.
• Proposal Delivery: Present highly accurate quotes, cost breakdowns, and lead-time proposals to prospective buyers.
• Deal Closing: Follow up on submitted proposals, address technical feedback, and finalize production contracts to secure the order.
• Order Processing: Ensure precise entry of confirmed project specifications into the internal system for seamless manufacturing handoff.

Job Qualifications

Experience & Education

• Education: Technical degree, certification, or background in Mechanical Engineering or a related manufacturing field is highly preferred.
• Experience: 2+ years of sales or technical estimating experience within sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing.

Skills & Competencies

• Advanced Drawing Literacy: Demonstrated ability to expertly read and understand complex engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and
• tolerancing (GD&T), and assembly files.
• Client Translation: Proven track record of listening to technical clients and establishing a clear, error-free understanding of exactly what they want.
• Fabrication Knowledge: Strong understanding of sheet metal capabilities, including laser cutting, CNC punching, bending/forming, welding, and finishing.
• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills to clearly convey technical specifications between clients and the workshop.
