Job summary

Goldi in Standerton, Mpumalanga, is seeking a customer-focused Retail Deli Assistant to join its Factory Shop team. You will prepare, package, merchandise, and sell fresh and frozen Goldi products while upholding strict food-safety, hygiene and quality standards.

Qualifications

Role Overview

Goldi, one of South Africa's leading integrated poultry producers within the Astral Group, is looking for a customer-focused and energetic Retail Deli Assistant to join its Factory Shop team in Standerton, Mpumalanga.

The successful candidate will prepare, package, merchandise and sell fresh, frozen and value-added Goldi products while providing excellent customer service and maintaining strict food-safety, hygiene and product-quality standards.

Role Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, efficient customer service and offer accurate product information and advice.
• Prepare, portion, weigh, package, label and display deli products according to approved standards.
• Process customer orders accurately and ensure products are presented professionally.
• Maintain attractive, well-stocked product displays with accurate pricing and labelling.
• Receive, replenish, rotate and control stock using first-in, first-out principles.
• Monitor product freshness, expiry dates, temperatures and quality, and report concerns promptly.
• Maintain food-safety, hygiene and HACCP standards in all food preparation, storage and display areas.
• Complete required food-safety, temperature, traceability and stock-control records accurately.
• Assist with stock counts and help minimise wastage, damages, shrinkage and stock losses.
• Perform daily cleaning and housekeeping duties in the deli and surrounding retail areas.
• Comply with all health, safety, security and Company policies and procedures.
• Assist with promotions and perform other reasonable duties required to support store operations.

Required Qualifications And Knowledge

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• One to two years relevant experience in a retail, supermarket, deli or fast-moving consumer goods environment.
• Food-handling and customer-service experience will be advantageous.
• Basic computer literacy and the ability to complete manual records accurately.
• Experience using hand-held stock scanners, label printers or product traceability systems will be advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of stock rotation, merchandising, food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Food Safety or HACCP, retail, merchandising, customer-service or first-aid training will be advantageous.
• Good communication, teamwork, time-management and customer-service skills.
• Strong attention to detail and an honest, dependable and service-driven approach.
• Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, lift products and work in chilled or frozen retail areas.
• Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays in accordance with operational requirements.
• A commitment to food safety, product quality and maintaining the Goldi brand.
