The role requires a strong track record in project development, PPAs, stakeholder engagement, and robust financial modeling, with at least six years of experience and a relevant degree.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking an ambitious and experienced Renewable Energy Project Developer to join their fully remote team. In this pivotal role, you will identify, evaluate, and secure new renewable energy project opportunities across South Africa. Your responsibilities will include site analysis, securing permits and land rights, negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs), and managing the early-stage development pipeline. This position is ideal for a self-motivated individual with a deep understanding of the renewable energy market and a proven ability to bring projects from inception to financial close, contributing significantly to the company's expansion goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess potential sites for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, etc.), considering resource availability, grid connection feasibility, and regulatory constraints.
• Manage the land acquisition process, including lease agreements and securing necessary permits and approvals from local and national authorities.
• Develop and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and other key project contracts with off-takers and stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, community leaders, government officials, and other key stakeholders.
• Conduct financial modeling and economic analysis to support project viability and secure financing.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams during the early stages of project development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field; Master's degree is advantageous.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a strong track record of successfully bringing projects to financial close.
• In-depth knowledge of renewable energy technologies, market dynamics, and regulatory frameworks in South Africa.
• Proven experience in contract negotiation, PPA structuring, and stakeholder engagement.
• Excellent financial acumen, with the ability to perform project finance modeling and analysis.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
