Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Renewable Energy Project Developer to join the Upington team, responsible for identifying, evaluating and securing solar and wind opportunities. You will perform market analysis, site assessment, financial modeling and secure permits and PPAs.

The role offers exposure to major renewable energy projects in the Northern Cape, with collaboration across EPC teams to drive sustainable energy growth.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of renewable energy project development experience.
• Strong understanding of solar and/or wind technologies.
• Familiarity with South African energy regulations and permitting processes.

Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate potential sites for solar and wind energy projects, assessing resource availability and interconnection feasibility.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new project opportunities and partnerships.
• Develop preliminary project economics, including cost estimations and financial modeling for investment proposals.
• Lead the process of securing permits, licenses, and land leases for project development.
• Negotiate PPAs and other key commercial contracts.
• Collaborate with EPC teams throughout the project lifecycle.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an ambitious and results-oriented Renewable Energy Project Developer to join their team in Upington . This role is instrumental in identifying, evaluating, and securing opportunities for new renewable energy projects, particularly solar and wind farms. You will be responsible for market analysis, site assessment, financial modeling, and securing permits and agreements necessary for project development. Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate potential sites for solar and wind energy projects , assessing resource availability and grid interconnection feasibility.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new project opportunities and strategic partnerships.
• Develop preliminary project economics, including cost estimations and financial modeling for investment proposals.
• Lead the process of securing necessary permits, licenses, and land leases for project development.
• Negotiate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other key commercial contracts.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in renewable energy project development , with a strong understanding of solar and/or wind technologies.
• Demonstrated ability in financial modeling, market analysis, and deal structuring.
• Familiarity with South African energy regulations and permitting processes.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
