Placements24 is seeking a proactive Renewable Energy Project Developer to join a fully remote team. You will identify, evaluate, and secure solar, wind, and storage opportunities across South Africa, building a strong project pipeline from inception to financial close.

With 5+ years in project development, you will analyze markets, engage stakeholders, and secure PPAs, while collaborating with engineering, legal, and finance teams to deliver bankable opportunities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Renewable Energy Project Developer to join their fully remote team. This role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and securing new opportunities for renewable energy projects, primarily solar and wind, across South Africa. You will be instrumental in building and managing a pipeline of projects from inception through to financial close. Working independently and collaborating virtually with a national team, you will leverage your expertise in market analysis, site assessment, and stakeholder engagement to drive the expansion of clean energy generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess potential sites for renewable energy projects, evaluating technical feasibility and economic viability.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging opportunities and trends in the renewable energy sector.
• Develop and maintain relationships with landowners, local authorities, and other key stakeholders.
• Negotiate and secure land leases, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and other necessary project agreements.
• Prepare comprehensive project proposals, financial models, and investment cases for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, legal, and finance teams throughout the project development lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in project development, with a significant focus on renewable energy projects (solar, wind, battery storage).
• Proven track record of successfully developing and securing renewable energy projects.
• Strong understanding of the South African energy policy landscape, regulations, and grid connection processes.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively remotely.
• Proficiency in project management and financial modeling tools.
