Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Energy Project Developer in Benoni, Gauteng for a hybrid role focused on solar and wind. You will identify, evaluate, and secure new opportunities, manage site selection, stakeholder engagement, and financial modeling, navigating regulatory processes to move projects toward financial close.

You will work across remote strategic planning and on-site engagement, collaborating with engineers and commercial teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Business, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in project development.
• Proven success in originating, developing, and closing energy projects.
• Strong understanding of solar and wind technologies and the South African energy market.
• Excellent financial modeling and valuation skills.
• Negotiation and contract management capabilities.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel to sites for hybrid role from the Benoni office.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assess sites for renewable energy projects.
• Conduct market research and feasibility studies to evaluate project viability and potential returns.
• Develop and manage project pipelines from concept to shovel-ready status.
• Engage with landowners, community stakeholders, government authorities, and off-takers.
• Prepare detailed financial models and investment cases for proposed projects.
• Negotiate and secure land leases, PPAs, and other contracts.
• Obtain necessary permits, licenses, and approvals from regulatory bodies.
• Collaborate with EPC teams to ensure project designs meet development objectives.
• Manage relationships with investors, lenders, and other financial partners.
• Stay informed about energy policy, market trends, and competitive landscapes.
• Prepare project proposals and presentations for stakeholders.
• Contribute to strategic growth of the renewable energy portfolio.
