Job summary

WSP Global Inc. in Midrand seeks a Civil/Mechanical/Electrical engineer to support our Energy team on utility-scale Solar PV and Wind projects across Southern Africa. You will advise investors, developers and lenders through the project lifecycle, from feasibility to commissioning, with travel up to 50%.

The role focuses on multidisciplinary collaboration, technical input, and development of proposals while mentoring junior engineers and upholding WSP SHEQ standards.

Qualifications

• A BSc Engineering or BTech Engineering qualification in Electrical or Mechanical.
• 3–6 years of postgraduate renewable energy experience with Solar PV expertise.
• Knowledge of the South African renewable energy market (REIPPPP).
• Experience advising investors, developers and lenders across feasibility to commissioning.
• Knowledge of Solar PV plant design, layouts and grid interfaces.
• Experience with utility-scale applications such as ground-mounted or tracking systems.
• ECSA registration and commitment to PrEng registration if applicable.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and manage priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical advisory assignments for utility-scale Solar PV and Wind Energy projects.
• Coordinate inputs across mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation.
• Provide technical input from initial assessment through commissioning.
• Prepare and manage technical specifications, tenders and contractor selection.
• Support due diligence, financial close and review of contracts.
• Identify risks and propose mitigation measures.
• Develop proposals, scope, and price services; support client growth.
• Mentor junior engineers and uphold SHEQ standards.
