Job summary

WSP USA in Midrand is seeking an energy engineer to help deliver utility-scale Solar PV and Wind projects across Southern Africa, with opportunities for selected international assignments.

You will advise investors, developers and lenders through the project lifecycle, from feasibility through design review, procurement, construction monitoring, testing and commissioning, travelling up to 50% to client offices and sites.

Qualifications

• A BSc Engineering or BTech Engineering qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–6 years of postgraduate renewable energy experience with Solar PV expertise.
• Knowledge of the South African renewable energy market (REIPPPP) preferred.
• Experience advising investors, developers, lenders or banks across feasibility and construction stages.
• ECSA registration as Candidate Engineer; professional registration desired or commitment to PrEng within 1–3 years.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical advisory assignments for utility-scale Solar PV and Wind Energy projects.
• Coordinate inputs across electrical, mechanical, civil, and control disciplines.
• Provide technical input from initial assessment through design review and commissioning.
• Prepare and manage technical specs, tenders, evaluations, and contractor selection.
• Support due diligence, financial close and review of EPC and O&M contracts.
• Identify risks and recommend practical mitigations.
• Develop proposals, scope, and price services to support client growth.
• Build relationships with clients, contractors and internal teams; mentor juniors.
• Promote SHEQ standards and a safe working environment.
