Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Electrical Design Engineer for a fully remote role within South Africa. You will design and plan electrical systems for telecom sites, including power supplies, backup power, grounding, and lightning protection. This role emphasizes CAD-based drafting and adherence to industry standards.

Requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years in telecom or related infrastructure, with strong analytical, communication, and remote-work capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical design for telecom or related infrastructure.
• Proficiency with CAD software for electrical drawings (AutoCAD).
• Solid understanding of AC/DC power, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Experience with backup power systems (generators, UPS, batteries).
• Knowledge of telecom site infrastructure is a plus.
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote team.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical systems for telecom sites including power supply and backup power.
• Develop electrical drawings, schematics and documentation using CAD software.
• Perform load calculations, battery sizing and cable sizing.
• Design grounding and lightning protection for site safety.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (TIA-942, NEBS, SANS) and company specs.
• Collaborate with network, civil engineers and project managers to integrate designs.
• Review site surveys and reports to inform design decisions.
• Troubleshoot and provide technical support for existing installations.
• Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in telecom power systems.
