Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced in-house Legal Specialist focused on Technology and Intellectual Property. This fully remote SA role requires advising on software licensing, data privacy (POPIA, GDPR) and IP strategy while protecting the company’s tech assets.

You will draft and negotiate tech contracts, manage IP portfolios, and collaborate with product teams in a fast-paced global environment. Remote flexibility and competitive compensation are offered.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with 6+ years in Technology Law and Intellectual Property.
• Strong understanding of IP principles: patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets.
• Data privacy regulations expertise (POPIA, GDPR) and cybersecurity issues.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex technology agreements.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on technology law (licensing, SaaS, cloud, data protection).
• Protect and manage IP portfolio (trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets).
• Draft, review, and negotiate technology-related contracts and licenses.
• Advise on IP strategy, including filings and enforcement.
• Conduct IP due diligence for potential acquisitions or partnerships.
• Support product teams by identifying legal risks in new technologies.
• Develop internal policies on data privacy, cybersecurity, and IP protection.
• Stay current with global tech/IP legal trends and liaise with external counsel.
