• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification.
• Admission as an Attorney or Advocate in South Africa is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years post-qualification experience focusing on data privacy, data protection, and information law.
• In-depth knowledge and practical experience with POPIA, GDPR, and other major international privacy frameworks.
• Experience drafting and negotiating privacy-related clauses in contracts.
• Strong understanding of data security principles and technology.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and deliver high-quality work remotely.
• CIPP or equivalent privacy certification is a significant advantage.

Responsabilidades

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy compliance programs and policies.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
• Advise on data processing agreements, vendor contracts, and third-party data sharing arrangements.
• Manage data breach incidents, including investigation, reporting, and remediation efforts.
• Train and educate internal teams on data privacy best practices and legal requirements.
• Collaborate with the Information Security team to ensure alignment between privacy and security measures.
• Stay abreast of emerging privacy regulations and legal developments globally and advise the business accordingly.

About the Role

Our client, a global leader in the technology and data services sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel with a specialization in Data Privacy and Compliance. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within South Africa, though we encourage applications from individuals based in or familiar with Polokwane, Limpopo. The role will involve providing expert legal guidance on data protection regulations (including POPIA and GDPR), managing compliance programs, and advising on data-related risks across the organisation.
