You will manage end-to-end, conduct investigations, assess coverage, negotiate settlements, and coordinate with experts and legal counsel from a remote setup.

The role demands strong analytical, negotiation, and regulatory knowledge, with a track record in high-value claims and independence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years in claims handling, with at least 4 years in complex special risks.
• Expertise in evaluating and settling specialized insurance claims.
• In-depth knowledge of South African insurance law and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong negotiation, influencing, and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration.
• Proven ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines remotely.
• Experience with claims management systems and digital tools.
• Degree in Law, Commerce, Risk Management, or related discipline is advantageous.
• Ability to work autonomously with high self-discipline and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of complex and high-value special risks claims from notification to final settlement.
• Conduct in-depth investigations, analyze policy wordings, and determine coverage for intricate claims scenarios.
• Evaluate liability, assess damages, and negotiate settlements with claimants and their legal counsel.
• Appoint and manage external experts such as loss adjusters, engineers, and legal advisors as required.
• Ensure compliance with South African legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures.
• Maintain meticulous claim files, documenting all correspondence and actions.
• Identify potential subrogation or salvage opportunities.
• Provide expert advice on special risks to internal teams and external parties.
• Proactively manage claim reserves and ensure accuracy.
• Contribute to development and improvement of special risks claims handling strategies in a remote framework.
