Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join a remote-first team advancing bioinformatics and AI research. You will build and deploy ML models on large-scale biological data, collaborate with researchers worldwide, and contribute to scientific outputs.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in data science with ML for biology, strong Python/R skills, and experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn. This is a fully remote role offering flexibility and asynchronous collaboration.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or related quantitative field
• Minimum 5 years of professional data science experience emphasizing ML on biological data
• Proficiency in Python or R with ML algorithms (regression, classification, deep learning)
• Experience with ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Keras
• Strong statistical thinking and understanding of hypothesis testing
• Familiarity with genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics data types
• Excellent remote collaboration skills using Slack, Zoom, Jira, and Git
• Self-motivated and able to manage projects independently in a remote setting

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy ML models for biological data analysis, including predictive modelling, classification, and clustering
• Analyze large-scale datasets such as genomic sequences and gene expression profiles
• Collaborate remotely with researchers and engineers to integrate ML into workflows
• Develop novel algorithms to address bioinformatics challenges
• Evaluate models, tune hyperparameters, and ensure scalable solutions
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to scientific literature and present work at virtual conferences
• Stay updated on ML/deep learning advances and bioinformatics applications
