Placements24 is seeking a Senior Bioinformatician to lead omics data analysis and pipeline development in a fully remote role. You will collaborate with bench scientists, clinicians, and data analysts across Durban and international sites to translate discoveries into actionable insights.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field (bioinformatics, computational biology, CS, statistics).
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on bioinformatics experience
• Proficiency in Python and R with bioinformatics libraries
• Experience with BLAST, Ensembl, UCSC Genome Browser
• Strong statistical methods applied to biological data
• Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis
• Cloud familiarity (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containers (Docker, Singularity)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for remote work
• Experience with Git version control

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines for omics data analysis
• Integrate diverse biological datasets to identify biomarkers
• Collaborate with experimental scientists and clinicians to guide experiments
• Design and conduct statistical analyses to test hypotheses
• Develop and maintain research databases and data management strategies
• Create informative data visualizations of complex results
