Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Developer (Backend) to join a fully remote team across South Africa. You will architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering cutting-edge applications, mentor junior developers, and shape technical strategy.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of backend experience with Python, Node.js, Java, or Go, strong API and microservices knowledge, and cloud proficiency. Collaboration and autonomous work in a distributed setup are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Node.js, Java, or Go.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis.
• Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP and CI/CD practices.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes; strong problem-solving and communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs.
• Write clean, well-documented code using Python, Node.js, or Java.
• Architect and implement SQL/NoSQL database solutions for performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and stakeholders to define requirements.
• Lead code reviews, mentor junior developers, and address technical debt.
• Contribute to microservices and cloud-based architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, E2E).
• Ensure security and data integrity across systems.
