Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs. This fully remote role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in South Africa and requires leadership in code quality and mentoring junior developers.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years of backend experience and proficiency in Java/Python/Node.js, RESTful APIs, databases, and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional backend experience.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, Go, or C#.
• Extensive experience designing and working with RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of database technologies (SQL/NoSQL) and data modeling.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) is a plus.
• Familiarity with microservices and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Strong understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration for a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable backend services and APIs.
• Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and testable code.
• Collaborate with front-end developers and other stakeholders to integrate server-side logic.
• Implement security and data protection best practices.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy.
