Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable APIs and services. You will shape the backend architecture, mentor engineers, and drive best practices in a remote, agile team environment based in South Africa.

The role requires expertise in RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems, with strong experience in Go, Python, Node.js, or Java, plus cloud and containerization skills. A competitive package and stock options are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of professional backend experience.
• Proven experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Expertise in at least one backend language (Go, Python, Node.js, Java).
• Strong SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) knowledge.
• Cloud familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure; containerization with Docker.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy high-performance backend services and APIs.
• Build and maintain scalable database solutions and ensure data integrity.
• Develop and manage microservices architecture and service integration.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and QA teams to deliver features.
• Write clean, well-documented code following best practices.
• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot, and optimize applications for speed.
• Mentor junior backend engineers and participate in code reviews.
