Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer specialized in Python and Django to design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services. This fully remote role within South Africa requires API design, database expertise, and strong problem-solving.

You will mentor juniors and influence architectural decisions while collaborating with a distributed global team. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of backend experience with Python/Django, cloud familiarity, and experience with asynchronous

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional backend development experience with Python and Django.
• Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Solid experience with SQL databases and database design.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies (JavaScript, React) is a plus.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker) is beneficial.
• Understanding of asynchronous programming and message queues (Celery, RabbitMQ).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python and Django.
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs for frontend and third-party integrations.
• Manage relational databases and ensure data integrity.
• Implement security and data protection measures.
• Write unit and integration tests.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement new features.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and best practices for backend development.
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs and performance issues in production environments.
• Mentor junior backend engineers, fostering their growth.
