Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a fully remote South Africa team. You will design, build, and deploy scalable backend services for energy trading platforms, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements and architecture.

The role requires 7+ years in backend development, expertise in Python/Java/C++, and distributed systems with cloud/container experience. Remote-first environment and strong problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Eng or related field or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development with backend focus.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or C++, and distributed systems knowledge.
• Relational and NoSQL databases, caching, and cloud platforms.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; remote work aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs for energy trading applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, quants, and other engineers to define software requirements and architecture.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using best practices and modern development methodologies.
• Optimize application performance, database interactions, and system resilience.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural design sessions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and infrastructure.
