Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Developer to join its fully remote engineering team serving clients across South Africa. You will design and implement scalable APIs, optimize database performance, and ensure reliability and security of our backend systems.

The role emphasizes autonomy, collaboration with remote teams, and delivering high-quality software solutions. You will lead technical directions, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to architectural discussions

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with complex systems.
• Proficient in at least one major backend language (Python/Go/Java/Node.js).
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes and remote collaboration.
• Strong written and verbal communication for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and deploy robust and scalable backend services and APIs using modern technologies.
• Collaborate effectively with remote frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers using asynchronous and synchronous communication tools.
• Optimize performance, database queries, and server-side logic for maximum efficiency and responsiveness.
• Ensure the security and integrity of data by implementing best practices in data protection and access control.
• Participate in architectural design discussions and provide technical leadership to the backend development team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments, often requiring independent problem-solving.
