Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Remote Public Affairs Specialist for a national advocacy group. You will develop and execute strategies for media relations, government outreach, and public awareness campaigns, shaping policy discourse from a remote position.

You will craft persuasive communications, build relationships with key influencers, monitor political developments, and manage projects independently in a remote-first setup across South Africa.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in public policy, political science, communications, law, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in public affairs, government relations, PR, or related field.
• Proven success in developing advocacy and communication strategies.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication with persuasive storytelling.
• Proven ability to build relationships with government officials and media.
• Strong understanding of policy-making and legislative advocacy.
• Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.
• Proficient with digital tools and social media for advocacy.
• Ability to work independently and manage complex remote projects.
• Excellent research, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement public affairs and communications strategies to advance policy objectives.
• Manage media relations: pitch stories, respond to inquiries, coordinate interviews with spokespeople.
• Engage with government officials, policymakers, and community leaders to advocate for the organization’s positions.
• Create policy briefs, advocacy materials, press releases, and social media updates.
• Monitor legislative developments, public discourse, and media coverage relevant to the work.
• Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, think tanks, and advocacy partners.
• Organize and facilitate public forums, webinars, and stakeholder meetings.
• Analyze the effectiveness of public affairs campaigns and provide strategic recommendations.
• Advise senior leadership on public affairs matters and risks.
• Represent the organization in public forums and coalitions.

Education

Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Law, or related field
