Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Remote Communications and Advocacy Officer to lead strategic communication plans and advocacy campaigns that raise awareness and influence policy. You will craft messaging, manage media relations, and coordinate outreach across South Africa from a remote setup.

The role requires a persuasive communicator with strong digital engagement skills and a passion for social justice, working from anywhere in South Africa with a focus on Gauteng’s Sandton region.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in communications, political science, public policy, journalism, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years in communications, public relations, advocacy, or similar role.
• Proven experience developing and executing comms and advocacy strategies.
• Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling with ability to tailor messages.
• Strong media relations, public affairs, and policy advocacy understanding.
• Proficiency with digital tools and social media for advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute integrated communication and advocacy strategies.
• Craft press releases, advisories, blog posts, and other materials.
• Manage media relations and secure positive coverage.
• Develop advocacy campaigns for policymakers and influencers.
• Create engaging social media content to broaden reach.
• Monitor policy developments and provide analyses and recommendations.
• Organize online/offline events, webinars, and forums for advocacy.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on messaging.
• Analyze campaign effectiveness and report outcomes and impact.
• Maintain advocacy databases and contact lists.
