Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Remote Optical Network Engineer to design, implement, and optimize nationwide fiber optic transport networks across South Africa.

You will work with distributed teams to ensure high-capacity, reliable data transmission, leveraging DWDM, OTN, and SONET/SDH technologies while supporting remote operations and professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in optical network design and engineering.
• Expertise in DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH, and other optical transport technologies.
• Proficiency with optical test equipment and network simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic principles, cable management, and optical safety.
• Excellent remote collaboration skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan optical network layouts, including DWDM, OTN, and fiber distribution frames.
• Configure and manage optical transmission equipment from various vendors.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot optical link issues, and perform root cause analysis.
• Develop and implement strategies for network capacity planning and scalability.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Remote Optical Network Engineer to contribute to the advancement of their nationwide fiber optic network infrastructure. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa.
