Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Remote Mine Environmental Specialist to join the sustainability team. You will develop and implement environmental management plans across mining projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and best practices in rehabilitation and waste management.

The role requires 6+ years in mining environmental management, strong GIS and reporting skills, and the ability to work autonomously with site teams and regulators from a remote setting.

Qualifications

• Requires BSc or MSc in Environmental Science/Management or related field.
• Minimum 6 years in environmental management within mining/heavy industry.
• Know-how of environmental legislation (NEMA) and SA permitting processes.
• Experience with monitoring, risk assessment, and remediation techniques.
• Proficient in environmental reporting software and GIS applications.
• Strong organization, communication, and project management for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement EMPs for mining operations.
• Conduct EIAs and monitor regulatory compliance and permits.
• Oversee water, waste, air quality, and biodiversity programs.
• Provide guidance to site environmental officers.
• Prepare environmental reports for regulators and internal reviews.
• Stay updated on environmental laws and industry best practices.
• Coordinate environmental training for site personnel.
