Placements24 client, a prominent financial institution near Stellenbosch, Western Cape, ZA, seeks a Lead Regulatory Counsel to drive regulatory strategy across South Africa in a fully remote role. You will provide strategic legal guidance, ensure compliance with FAIS, FICA, POPIA, and related laws, and manage regulatory relationships.

You will lead a small team of legal professionals, collaborate with business stakeholders, and shape the regulatory strategy while upholding the highest standards

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with 8+ years in financial services regulation.
• Deep understanding of SA financial services laws and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven ability to advise on compliance, risk, and regulatory engagement.

Responsabilités

• Develop and implement regulatory compliance strategies for a financial services business.
• Interpret and advise on FS regulator requirements (FAIS, FICA, POPIA and related laws).
• Manage relationships with regulators such as FSCA.
• Oversee regulatory aspects of product development from inception.
• Lead and mentor a team of legal and compliance professionals.
• Conduct regulatory risk assessments and mitigation planning.
• Advise on licensing, applications, and ongoing compliance obligations.
• Draft and implement internal policies to ensure regulatory adherence.
• Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement actions.
