Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Remote Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design for utility-scale solar and wind projects globally. You will develop diagrams, perform load flow and protection studies, and ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE/SANS standards.

Ideal candidates hold a power systems specialization, 8+ years in electrical engineering (4+ in renewables), and proficiency in PSS/E/ETAP/PSCAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 4 years in renewable energy projects (solar or wind).
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD).
• Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, grid interconnection requirements, and energy storage systems.
• Experience with low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems design.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, crucial for remote team environments.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience with international projects and diverse regulatory environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering for utility-scale solar and wind power projects.
• Develop single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment specifications for power generation and balance of plant systems.
• Perform electrical load flow, short circuit, and protection studies using industry-standard software.
• Design AC/DC systems, grounding, and lightning protection for renewable energy facilities.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards (IEC, IEEE, SANS), and client requirements.
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and procurement teams to ensure integrated project design and execution.
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of projects.
• Review vendor documentation and equipment submittals.
• Contribute to the development of project cost estimates and technical proposals.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies and electrical engineering practices.
