Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to steer energy analytics initiatives for a cutting-edge technology firm serving the Oil & Gas sector. This fully remote role requires guiding a team of data scientists, setting roadmaps, and delivering innovative ML solutions across the energy value chain.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in data science, with at least 3 years in leadership, strong Python/R skills, and a track record in analytics-driven business impact.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in data science, with at least 3 years in a lead or management role.
• Extensive experience with Python or R, and libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
• Proven expertise in statistical modeling, ML algorithms, and data mining techniques.
• Experience with large-scale datasets and distributed computing frameworks (Spark).
• Strong understanding of Oil & Gas or related energy sectors is desirable.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead projects remotely.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and deployment of ML models and analytical solutions for energy challenges.
• Design data mining strategies to extract insights from large datasets.
• Develop predictive models for production optimization, equipment failure, and market forecasting.
• Collaborate with geoscientists and engineers to translate business needs into data science problems.
• Mentor and manage a team of data scientists, providing technical guidance.
• Define project scope, deliverables, and timelines for data science initiatives.
• Evaluate and implement new data science tools and methodologies.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security for analysis.
• Stay at the forefront of AI, ML, and data science advancements.
