Job summary

Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a proactive Junior Legal Officer to join a fully remote legal team. This entry-level role offers exposure to compliance and regulatory affairs within a tech-focused e-commerce environment, including POPIA and consumer protection.

You will assist in policy development, draft terms and privacy policies, monitor regulatory updates, and support the Legal Counsel on projects while working independently from anywhere.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney or candidate attorney eligible for admission to the High Court of SA, or an LLB graduate with interest in compliance.
• Up to 3 years post-qualification experience in a legal or compliance role, preferably in tech/e-commerce.
• Foundational understanding of SA contract law, consumer protection, and POPIA.
• Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven ability to work independently and remotely.
• Proficiency in standard office software and legal research platforms.
• Enthusiasm for compliance and proactive learning.
• Fully remote position.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and monitoring compliance programs and policies.
• Research relevant laws and regulations impacting e-commerce.
• Draft/review terms and conditions, privacy policies, and customer agreements.
• Monitor regulatory changes and advise on impacts.
• Assist in data privacy compliance (POPIA).
• Handle customer disputes from legal/compliance perspective.
• Liaise with external counsel and regulatory bodies.
• Maintain records of compliance activities and legal documents.
• Support Legal Counsel on various projects and initiatives.
• Contribute to training materials on compliance topics.
