Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a remote Substation Engineer to design high-voltage substations in South Africa. You will develop SLDs, equipment specs, protection schemes, and site layouts as part of a distributed team.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 6+ years of substations design (11kV+), and proficiency with CAD tools; ETAP/PSS/E experience is a plus. Strong remote collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 6+ years of experience in design and engineering of electrical substations (11kV+).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar CAD software.
• Experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E) is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of substation equipment, protection relays, and control systems.
• Knowledge of relevant national and international electrical standards (NRS, IEC).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical design for high-voltage substations, including SLDs, schematics, and wiring.
• Specify substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and busbars.
• Develop protection and control philosophies and schematics for substation automation.
• Create site layouts, grounding designs, and cable trenching plans.
• Review and approve technical submittals from equipment vendors.
• Collaborate with civil and structural teams for integrated designs.
