Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Forestry Management Specialist to lead sustainable forest planning, monitoring and biodiversity initiatives. This fully remote role supports forest ecosystems across Durban and beyond, with flexible hours and autonomous project management.

You will conduct GIS-based assessments, develop management strategies, and report on forestry health and conservation progress, collaborating with partners online to achieve sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years in forest management, conservation or silviculture.
• Proficiency in GIS and remote sensing software for forest analysis.
• Strong understanding of forest ecology, timber management, and conservation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute sustainable forest management plans, including harvesting, reforestation, and conservation strategies.
• Conduct remote assessments of forest health, biomass, and biodiversity using GIS and remote sensing.
• Monitor forest inventories, growth rates, and impacts of climate factors.
• Ensure compliance with forestry regulations and certification standards.
• Prepare detailed reports on forest conditions and sustainability metrics.
• Collaborate virtually with forestry teams and stakeholders to meet conservation goals.
